Some of the perks are obvious. Most virtual assistant positions provide workers with a flexible schedule. For the most part, you get to do your assignments whenever you like.

If early mornings leave you lethargic and/or borderline comatose, you no longer have to deal with them in order to make ends meet.

If you are at your best and most creative at 2 am, being a virtual assistant means that you don’t have to deal with the limited and often low paying job options that are usually available for night owls.

More Pros & Cons of Being a Virtual Assistant is that as a virtual assistant you are required very little in the way of start-up costs. You don’t have to have a professional wardrobe or a car in order to be successful.

All you need is a computer with a stable internet connection. Given those facts, it’s easy to see how this career additionally allows people to either work from home or become digital nomads.

People who are currently living a nomadic lifestyle can likewise benefit from jobs as virtual assistants because these positions allow them to make money as they travel.

Of course, nothing sounds better in theory than seeing the world and enjoying all life has to offer but the reality can be daunting.

The obvious downside here is that people will often need to save some funds before they can leave their current lifestyle behind them. They’ll also need to put in enough working hours to cover their basic expenses as well as the cost of travel.

It’s not a job for everyone, though. People that are easily distracted can find it hard to get all their work done, especially at home where there are more things competing for their attention than there would be in a normal workspace.

For instance, if the drier beeps to let you know the laundry is done, you can’t become so busy seeing about that issue that you forget your assignments for the next couple of hours.

Working from home isn’t a viable career choice for individuals who require the presence of others to keep them motivated and on task.

As a virtual assistant, you are your only coworker, which can be a positive or negative aspect, depending on your personality type.

Introverted people may find the lack of constant human interaction invigorating but extroverts might find the job a little lonely as a result.

It’s not a career for indecisive people, either. Being self-employed means that you are ultimately the person who gets to make the final decisions on everything.

If you don’t like someone, you can easily jettison them from your client list. But the difference in your salary if you do could certainly make you think twice about it.

On the other hand, you can always give yourself a pay raise if you find that your skills are in higher demand than you thought. (No more waiting for the boss to decide is certainly another plus!)

After all, a good virtual assistant is hard to find. Just don’t go overboard or your prospective clients might find someone else.

So, what’s a reasonable rate? At the moment, the average hourly rate for virtual assistants is currently about $35 USD. However, salaries can run higher or lower, depending on your expertise and niche.
