Turi Beach Resort – A Tropical Escape

Just a short 35- minute ferry ride from Singapore is Nongsa Batam, one of the 17,000 islands of Indonesia. And nestled among the tranquil beauty of lush hillsides and warm azure beaches, you’ll find the Turi Beach Resort. The peaceful retreat is accessible via both air and sea.

Tanah Merah Ferry center located on Singapore’s southeastern coast provides visitors direct transfer to Nongsapura Ferry Terminal located a short five-minute drive from the resort. Hang Nadim airport provides daily flights through major cities in Indonesia and is only 10 minutes away.

I chose to take the short ferry ride from Singapore and was promptly picked up by a smiling staff member from Turi Beach Resort. As we drove the short distance, the driver happily chatted with me about the area, weather, and local activities. As we pulled up to the reception area I was struck by its expanse and beauty. Its high, beamed ceiling, natural wood décor, and scenic views of the Singapore Strait confirmed I’d made the right getaway choice.

I was greeted with a wonderful tropical drink and walked through a very fast and painless check-in process. I chose to stay in a beach view executive suite in the Riani wing of the resort and from the minute I entered it I was thrilled. (To see more photos of the executive suite click here)

The 80 sqm (262 sqft) suite was warmly decorated in modern Indonesian style. It had a separate sitting area with LCD TV, desk, and mini bar. The bedroom had an en-suite double vanity bathroom with a wonderfully deep Jacuzzi tub. The suite’s best feature was the private balcony with panoramic views of the pool, beach, and ocean. I viewed wonderful sunrises and sunsets from my vantage point.

Turi Beach Resort boasts two huge pools. Near the Tirta wing is an unobstructed, deep emerald pool where guests can enjoy sunbathing or swimming laps. It also features the Emerald Bar perfect for a poolside drink.

Surrounded by natural flora and fauna, the free form lagoon pool, located near the Riani Wing, is a perfect place to spend a lazy day soaking up the sun. The varying depths are great for every level of swimmer. The design made me feel like I was in a private island lagoon.

The swim up Aqua Bar is perfect for guests who want that tropical drink but don’t want to leave the pool. There are plenty of sitting areas at both pools where visitors can enjoy poolside cocktails, loungers for sunbathing, and cabanas for those who want to relish the outdoors while in the shade.

Dining options throughout the resort are plentiful. Each morning a buffet breakfast serving both local and international choices is presented at Taming Sari Cafe. The open aired atmosphere is a great way to start your day. In the afternoons and evenings guests enjoy the menu at Cinta Manis Restaurant located above Taming Sari Café. The restaurant serves a plethora of meals from local Indonesian to Western cuisine.

I enjoyed an amazing meal at Nogusaya Teppanyaki & Grill Restaurant where the chef put on a live show and served exquisitely fresh meats, seafood, and vegetables he prepared in front of me. (Click here to see a video of the action)

The Yacht Club Bar offers guests pool tables, private karaoke rooms, and live entertainment. Their menu consists of local and western snacks, lite meals, and cocktails. It’s a great place to escape the heat and gather with friends and family.

Built on wooden stilts and presenting panoramic views of the sea is the Island Bar. Connected to a 220-meter (721 ft.) jetty its location is perfect for romantic sunset walks, cocktails before and after dinner, and group functions. I took a leisurely stroll down the wooden walkway at sunset and was awed by the natural beauty.

As I do at every destination, I scheduled a spa session. Turi Beach Resort features Tspa, a facility that presents Indonesian treatments featuring local, natural ingredients. Surrounded by nature and the soothing sounds of the sea my knowledgeable masseur delivered a relaxing, rejuvenation treatment and, as is always the case, the time flew by and I was left wanting more!

For guests who like to do more than relax pool or beach side the staff at Turi Beach Resort is happy to organize a variety of water sports, land and sea activities, and golf outings.

My stay at Turi Beach Resort was exceptional. What made it a memorable one is the outstanding customer service. Every staff member that I encountered was gracious, attentive, and eager to help in any way. From room service to my transfers to the ferry terminal the staff was a joy to work with.

I would highly recommend Turi Beach Resort for guests who want a hassle free, relaxing retreat. It’s a perfect location for weddings, romantic getaways, honeymoons, special occasions, or group events.
