It isn’t difficult to find scenic beaches on the Mediterranean coast but shores of the Atlantic also have some beautiful spots that are worth further investigation.

Europe

Elafonissi Beach This Grecian gem is naturally located on Elafonissi Island off the southern coast of Crete. The spot is known for its sandy, pinkish shores and clear aquamarine waters.

Visitors should be aware that this destination can get somewhat crowded during the peak summer months so they may prefer to visit during the fall or in the late afternoon. Another tip is to walk away from the main drop-off areas in order to get some privacy.

Playa de Ses Illetes This beach found on Formentera Island in the Balearic Islands gets high recommendations from many different travel guides. It’s best to get there early if you plan on renting a sun lounge as most tend to be in use by midmorning.

Cala Saona on the same island is certainly worth a look if you want a change of scenery or are trying to get away from the crowds.

Asia

Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines have to be added to my World’s Best Beaches ~ My Comprehensive List since they seem to be the most popular beach destinations in Asia and our selections reflect that fact.

Nacpan Beach This spot is located a little over a half-hour ride from the nearby town of El Nido on Palawan Islandhttp://www.palawanisland.org/ in the Philippines. Sandy shores, clear waters, and palm trees swaying in the breeze await beach goers.

This place is a prime spot for an early morning swim before it gets busy. Visitors should be aware that there is a small charge for stopping by the beach and make their plans accordingly.

Laem Tong Bay While Maya Bay is probably the most photographed shoreline on Koh Phi Phi Dong Island, this Thai beach is probably a more peaceful place to obtain your suntan.

It’s also a good spot for families as the water is calm and shallow enough for swimming. There are also a few restaurants nearby in case the kids get hungry. The scenery here is also good, with large peaks towering over the bay.

Oceania

Australia and Hawaii are replete with many scenic beaches that are often brimming with wildlife. Bora Bora in French Polynesia is another popular spot in the region for sun lovers. In all three cases, there were so many varied recommendations for the best beaches that deciding on the exact spot was nearly impossible.

Whitehaven Beach Australia’s Whitsunday Islands are known for their powdery sand and the abundant marine life that comes with being located near the Great Barrier Reef.

Whitehaven Beach makes a good, secluded spot to chill out and relax if you’re not the sort to need much in the way of entertainment. However, the seas can be rough at times and sometimes sharks can be seen in these waters.

Honokalani Beach This black sand beach can be found on the island of Maui in the Wai’anapanapa State Park. Although there are plenty other sites to see in the park, such as lava flows and caves, the beach itself was named one of the Best Hidden Beaches in Hawaii by Conde Nast Traveler in 2015.

Therefore, you might want to hurry up and visit before this spot starts attracting the attention that it deserves. All the same, travelers should bring waterproof shoes to wear during their visit rather running than the risk of cooking their feet.

North America & the Caribbean

Unknown to most travelers, the Costa Rican National Parks are home to some lovely beaches. Of course, the shores of Florida and California remain on the proverbial road well-traveled.

However, our picks were not among the region’s most obvious spots. Honorable mentions nonetheless go to Horseshoe Bay in Bermuda, Grace Bay in the Turks and Caicos, and Flamenco Beach in Puerto Rico.

Trunk’s Bay This pristine beach can be found on the isle of St John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Snorkeling is a popular activity for visitors here but simply laying out on the sandy shores is also a perfectly acceptable way to pass the time.

There are lifeguards at this beach along with bathroom and shower facilities. Travelers who visit the island for longer periods of time may also want to check out the nearby swimming areas at Cinnamon Bay, Maho Beach, and Jumbie Beach for a change of pace.

The Baths Large boulders fill the waters at this unique spot on Virgin Gorda. However, accessing the site is not for the faint of heart as navigating a narrow passageway then climbing down a rope ladder is required in order to reach the beach. Waterproof shoes are therefore a must.

Visitors should also ask around to be sure that a cruise ship is not stopping by at beach the same time they are because the space is quite small. However, there are toilets and a place to eat onsite.

South America

Lots of beaches in Brazil were on the preliminary list that I compiled from several different travel authorities. While most sources stated that Ipanema Beach near Rio de Janerio in Brazil was the place to see and be seen lying around on crowded beaches isn’t always the best or most peaceful way to get a tan.

If seeing wildlife instead of people happens to be your cup of tea, the Galapagos Islands deserve an honorable mention for being a good way to do exactly that. However, the following spots are some of the best all-around beaches in South America.

Playa Paraiso Located near Cayo Largo, Cuba, this nearly deserted shore is a good spot for lounging about in the sun. Clear water, soft sand, beautiful scenery, and all the usual trimmings can easily be found here.

Travelers can even rent beach lounge chairs for about two dollars in the local currency and order drinks as they sit and relax. However, this beach does have a problem with the occasional bit of debris washing up, so if you’re looking for a perfectly tidy spot this might not be it.

Playa Paraiso So nice, they said it twice. Actually this tidy beach is near Tulum, Mexico. It’s also located conveniently close to the nearby ruins, making it easy for travelers to combine both destinations at once.

Chairs can be rented here for around 50 pesos. Those who plan on taking their rental cars out to the beach should be aware that parking is limited and the shore can be especially crowded with locals on Sundays. Therefore, some careful planning could go a long way.

I hope you enjoyed World’s Best Beaches ~ My Comprehensive List. Have you been to any of these beaches? Do you have any to add to the list? Share your experiences with us! And, as always, happy travels!
