The most important meal of the day

The most important meal of the day

It’s the most important meal of the day and yet the one most often ignored. Who has time to sit down and eat when there are kids to get off to school, jobs to get to, and traffic to deal with? Most of us can barely grab a cup of coffee before we bolt out the door to start our day. Here is my installment of Gastronome Wednesday ~ Breakfast Around the World.

Languishing over the paper with a great cup of coffee, delighting in discussions of the week’s drama, and relishing the tastes of a wonderful breakfast are one of my favorite weekend activities. It’s the perfect start to a great day! I’ve put together a list of my favorite places to enjoy amazing breakfast food.

Huckleberry, Santa Monica, California USA

This place is always packed. Its famous maple-bacon biscuits draws the crowds early so be prepared to wait. The fluffy homemade biscuits are to die for. They also make a bangin’ Valrhona chocolate-dipped doughnut, mouth watering egg sandwich stuffed to the edge with crispy bacon, cave-aged Gruyere, and a spicy aioli. The popular café is known for using only local grown, organic ingredients, which is why it’s likely you’ll see a Hollywood star or two!

Americana Diner, East Windsor, New Jersey USA

New Jersey is famous for its Diners, which often stay open 24/7. In my opinion there isn’t a better place in the world to enjoy a good breakfast than in a busy, loud diner with smart mouthed waitresses that know the 200-item menu by heart. My favorite is the Americana. Their buttermilk, plate sized pancakes are nothing short of heaven. A side of scrapple and a cup of Joe and you’re set for the day. They also offer American favorites like cream chipped beef, any kind of eggs and hash browns, or a huge variety of giant muffins. In the mood for a hamburger at 7:00 am…they’ll do that for you too.

Stranger’s Reunion, Singapore

Always busy and a hub for the young crowd, this place does breakfast right. Their eggs benedict are amazing and the fruit waffle with yogurt is fantastic. This unexpected gem offers fusion food that is truly fantastic. The atmosphere is laid back and service is excellent. The coffee, absolutely a must try. Stranger’s boasts an award winning Barista and after the first sip you realize why. FYI – the signature coffee, Cup of Magic…really is magic!

Pablo, Negril, Jamaica

This little, outdoor seating breakfast spot serves classic Jamaican breakfast. They do a delicious traditional dish called Ackee and Salt Fish. Although a fruit, Ackee resembles scrambled eggs when it’s cooked and coupled with the salt fish this dish is the Jamaican version of lox and eggs. Other wonderful delights served at Pablo’s are fried Johnnycakes, plantains, and breadfruit. The best drink for me when in Jamaica is their version of hot chocolate. They boil the cocoa with ground nutmeg, cinnamon leaf, and condensed milk. Definitely a must try!

This are my list of favorite places in the world to eat breakfast, what are yours? Have you tried any of these places? Which country makes your favorite breakfast? Share your travel and food experiences with us.
