There is nothing like a surrounding yourself with the beauty of nature. The smell of flora and fauna, the sight of dew on leaves early in the morning, and the sound of birds singing brings me back to simpler days when all I needed to know what how long I could stay outside.

Stay in a Cabin

There are so many places to spend time in nature and none better than Beavers Bend State Park. Their cabins and other similar accommodations make a vacation in the woods even more enjoyable.

Birdwatching is especially entertaining if you’re vacationing in a different area of the country. Take along a journal to make note of any interesting birds you see. Also, be sure to bring some binoculars to see birds that like to sit way up in the trees.

If you aren’t sure of the name of a bird, describe it in your journal and do some research on it later.</p>

Canoeing

Renting a canoe allows you to take in the scenery from the water. This gives you a completely different perspective on the trees, flowers, plants, and animals in the area. You can float along in a leisurely way or you can get up some speed as you explore the waterway.

Don’t forget to add some of the birds you see to your journal. There are many birds that live and hunt near the water.

Fishing

Fishing can be a very relaxing way to spend a vacation. Even if you don’t catch anything, you have the chance to visit with family members or simply be alone with your thoughts for a while. In some vacation spots, you can rent all of the supplies you need for a fishing trip.

A Night Hike

Taking a hike at night gives you the chance to see the nocturnal animals in the area. You could see owls, bats, raccoons and more. Plus, seeing the trees and plants all around you at night can be yet another way to appreciate nature.

These are just a few of many activities you can participate in if you opt for a vacation in the woods. Taking photographs and video during your vacation can help you remember what a wonderful time you had with your loved ones.
