Night shot of Santosa

It was my first visit to Lombok, Indonesia and I chose to stay at a beautiful Lombok retreat at The Santosa Villas & Resort Lombok Indonesia because I’d heard some great things about it. It’s located about 1.5 hours from the Lombok International Airport and the resort is happy to organise transportation. Lombok is rich with tropical greenery, rice fields, and local architecture so the trip was an enjoyable one and went by quickly.

Grounds of Santosa

The Santosa Villas & Resort Lombok is situated next to the beach but it was the grounds that impressed me the most. The management and staff keep it immaculate and they have one of the biggest swimming pools I’ve ever seen.

Deluxe Cottage

They offer 125 Superior rooms, 32 Deluxe Cottages, 30 Deluxe Suits, 6 Deluxe suites with private pools, and 4 private Villas with pools. I chose to stay in one of the Deluxe Cottages and I was happy I did. The king sized bed, separate sitting area, and separate shower with a glass roof added to my experience.

Bathroom at Santosa

I was thrilled with the soaking tub and enjoying it every night. Each Deluxe Cottage also comes with its own porch with table and lounge chairs. Mine included a small semi-private courtyard with a short walkway that led directly to the pool and the beach beyond.

Breakfast buffet

Breakfast is served buffet style in an open aired massive thatched-covered seating area. There were the usual Indonesian and Asian dishes that were exceptional and an egg and pastry station for those who want a change. This is where I differ from a lot of travellers…or should I say visitors. Some people must have international food, items they recognize from their own home in order to feel satisfied. But, my motto is, if you’re visiting another country…eat like a local to get the full experience. The buffet at the Santosa has a variety of delicious Indonesian dishes to enjoy.

Filet mignon

The Seaside Restaurant offers delicious options both international and local for lunch and dinner. Each dish I tried was exceptionally prepared and presented and I was thrilled with the variety of cuisine. The restaurant is open aired with a view of both the beach and pool. The staff is happy to set up a romantic formal dinner on the beautifully landscaped grounds. It’s perfect for special occasions and celebrations. I was very impressed with the quality of service by the restaurant staff. They were attentive to my culinary desires, pleasant to talk to, and had extraordinary attention to detail.

Santosa Pool

As I mentioned, the pool is immense. There are varying depths which make is perfect for a game of pool volleyball, or for the kids to play a game of tag. I was happy to find a huge number of chase lounges both in the sun and in the shade. Each with its own umbrella and table giving guests the option to spend hours enjoying the sun. The towel hut is always staffed with people happy to swap out wet for dry towels or a chat. It was hard for me to leave the pool and explore the island.

The staff at the Santosa is exceptional. Friendly, helpful, and happy to talk with you as long as you like, I very much appreciated the genuine smiles and concern for my happiness during my stay. For a beautiful Lombok retreat I would highly recommend this hotel for both family and couples. The exceptional staff and service, location to Gili Islands and surrounding activities is the perfect choice when visiting Lombok.
