On a recent trip to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia I chose to stay at the historically rich Majestic Hotel located across from the historical Moorish style railway station and minutes from KL Central. From the moment I entered the lobby I knew I was in for an exceptional experience. The opulence of the hotel is palpable; with rich woods and elegant décor I immediately felt like royalty.

The original hotel was built in 1932 and, in its time, was a famous landmark were socialites, government officials, and prominent visitors came to stay, dine, and enjoy lavish parties. In 2012 YTL Hotels meticulously restored the national heritage site to its original glamour and added a new 15-story Tower Wing making it, again, the place to stay when visiting Kuala Lumpur.

The Majestic offers suites, deluxe rooms, and standard rooms to its guests and each one is exquisitely designed for the utmost comfort. I stayed in a deluxe room and was thrilled with its abundant size and coziness. The linens are heavenly which made it hard for me to get out of bed! I especially liked the turn down service each night; the expertly trained staff made me feel like I was the only one at the hotel.

The bathroom is to dye for! The deep tub is wonderful for indulgent soaks and the TV in the bathroom is perfectly situated making it an awesome place to de-stress with bubbles and a glass of wine.

Teatime at the Majestic is an elegant affair and one that would satisfy the highest of royals. Pastries, desserts, savories, and scones are presented with sophistication on tables set with the finest bone china. The attention to detail and excellent service by staff wearing formal attire make the experience one every guest should partake of. All this accompanied by a live pianist. I’ll admit it was my first English teatime event and I can’t imagine ever having a better one.

The Screening Room

I explored the Majestic with a child’s curiosity. Each staircase, twist, and turn presented another amazing luxury. I stumbled upon the screening room where Casa Blanca was playing. The plush leather recliners and soundproof room proved a perfect place to enjoy movie classics.

Visitors can never get bored at the Majestic, along with the screening room they boast a drawing room; a perfectly designed private lounge which offers a touch of nostalgia to the colonial days, a reading room with a large range of literature to choose from, a cigar room where guests can enjoy an after dinner drink and cigar surrounded by classic luxury, and a card room where you can play a friendly game of bridge, whist, cribbage or even go fish!

Dinner was another spectacular event. Held in the Colonial Café with its plush red leather chairs, timber paneling, and elegant white linens I felt like I’d stepped back in time. The atmosphere lends itself to the peaceful days of the Malaya planters and carries through to the colonial era classic cuisine that is served. The waiters all dressed in formal attire and were attentive, friendly, and always smiling. A band consisting of a grand piano, stand up bass, and drums accompanied the flawless singer who belted out memorable 50’s music. She even sang into a classic period mike! It was an awesome experience I won’t soon forget!

Buffet Breakfast

After a magnificent night’s sleep it was time to partake of the grand breakfast buffet that the Majestic is known for. (I eat a lot on these trips, don’t I?! But with all this amazing food that’s offered, how can I not?!) The breakfast spread, I noticed, is standard for the YTL Hotels. This was my second stay with the fantastic group and I have to say they do breakfast right. The choices were endless and plentiful. Everything from Asian to Western was presented and, of course, I tried a little bit of everything.

I walked around the hotel to digest my breakfast and soon it was time for my spa session. I love any spa encounter and always book one wherever I stay. I have just one word for my experience at the Majestic Spa…HEAVENLY!! It was the best two and a half hours of pure pampering that I’ve had in a while. The art deco style spa offers a huge menu of treatments expertly delivered by knowledgeable masseurs that use exotic ingredients for the utmost relaxation.

It’s always important to me that I, not only experience what each hotel that I review has to offer, but to also learn a bit about its history, culture, and to connect with the people who work there. I’m grateful to everyone that I meet who takes the time to explain what they do and I appreciate their enthusiasm and pride in their tasks. My time at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur was exceptional from the first minute I arrived to the farewell I received from the staff. I felt cared for, important, and catered to my entire time there and would highly recommend it above all other hotels when traveling to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. YTL Hotels Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur holds true to her name.
