During a recent trip to Lombok, Indonesia I had the chance to experience local culture at Puri Bunga Beach Cottages, a hotel that incorporates traditional Lombok architecture with culture and beautiful surroundings.
The beach cottages are an easy 90-minute drive from Lombok’s International airport and just yards away from the beach, restaurants, and markets.

The hotel is a 50-room facility extending deluxe rooms and suites with free Wi-Fi Internet service, private balconies, and 24-hour room service. I’d heard that each cottage offered panoramic views of the Lombok Strait so I chose to stay in one that would afford me a beautiful sunset. True to its claims the sunsets were, in fact, beautiful and I was able to get some great photos during my stay.

Puri Bunga has a very nice pool with well maintained grounds, plenty of chaise lounges, towel service, and a wonderful staff happy to assist guests in any way.

There is an onsite restaurant that offers a simple breakfast buffet along with local and international dishes during lunch and dinner.

The Spa is a short distance offsite with transportation organized by the hotel. DMS Dive Lombok operates the dive center associated with the hotel and are eager to help guests organize various snorkeling and scuba trips throughout and around Lombok. Interested in learning how to dive or become certified? Ask one of the dive masters to teach you how; you can practice right at the hotel pool.
What impressed me most about Puri Bunga was the exceptional service. Each staff member was eager to help guests in any way they could. They spoke English well and were always happy to chat or suggest activities. There was nothing I asked for that wasn’t happily provided for me.

The prices at Puri Bunga are extremely reasonable and it is located to many great places to eat, relax, and bars for cocktails and music. It’s also a great home base for the various activities on and around Lombok. The front desk staff is pleased to help visitors plan daily tours. The hotel is a unique way to experience local culture while visiting Lombok.
The hotel is located on a mountainside with beautiful views of the island and ocean, which are just across the road. As a result, there are steep stairs and no wheel chair access but a staff that is happy to help carry your luggage.
