Villas are among my favorite places to stay when traveling, especially in a country that has such amazing beaches and landscaping. And no one is more helpful and knows exactly what I’m looking for better than Gumtree Merchants. Their expert staff always understands my needs and happily helps me find the perfect villa for my budget.

Cape Town and the neighboring coastline present travelers with magnificent beaches, but none more beautiful than the Boulder’s Beach in Simon’s Town. With its wind sheltered bays and white sandy shores, it’s a perfect breeding ground for the endangered African Penguin. Visitor’s delight in the opportunity to watch these handsome animals frolic in the surf and if you’re lucky enough you just may get to take a dip with them in the shallow pools that surround their habitat.

Be reminded of our origin by visiting an African cultural village. Buyel’embo Village and her people celebrate their traditions through nature and music. It’s exceptional cuisine and fine art along with its horticulture and beautiful landscape bring each visitor back to the homelands. Embo is a true representation of something that is genuinely South African. The village’s uniqueness offers a great place for people to, not only enjoy good traditional food, but also listen to spiritual music and enjoy traditional dance.

If your adventurous, and I am, you simply cannot visit Cape Town without conquering a shark cage diving experience. There are several charters who offer this breathtaking experience. There’s nothing like braving the beautiful waters of South Africa to experience this life-changing event. Don’t forget to bring your underwater camera, no one’s going to believe you did it!

Of course every part of Africa is known for it’s safari expeditions and no stay is complete without one. There are literally hundreds of reputable companies that offer the service and many ways to experience a safari. From a simple, safe ride in a closed jeep, to a heart stopping experience sleeping among the big five. However you choose to go it’s an experience you will never forget.

Where to Eat

Traditional African Cuisine

Traditional African Cuisine

Want to learn how to prepare traditional African food and drink while listening to locals drum out their favorite tunes? It’s as easy as walking down the street. Watching authentic storytelling through dance never tires and two must visit places are Mzoli’s Place, a trendy butchery-turned-club-and-eatery in Gugulethu, and Eziko Restaurant in Langa, another expansive township in Cape Town. Of course traditional African cuisine can be found on street carts and in small cafés everywhere and I highly recommend not leaving Cape Town without tasting some of the local fair.

South Africa is an adventure traveler’s “get”. It’s a chance to encounter people and animals that are a far cry from what most of us are used to. I would highly recommend making the time in your busy schedule to plan and execute this amazing vacation. It’s one that will change your life forever.
